I have always loved the W126 and W126C bodystyle. Its timeless. When given the opportunity to purchase my 1985 500SEC Euro, with 80K miles, not driven for 10 years, yet needing restoration, I jumped!! The W126 Coupe is one of the most thoughtfully designed and engineered vehicles for its time. I love this car!!
I picked the "Other" option. My reason is sentimental value. I grew up with Mercedes in the household. I learned how to drive in the early 1980s, a 1960 220 SE (W112) with red leather interior that my parents bought in Paris while leaving there as newlyweds. My grandfather had a white with blue leather interior 1967 280 SEL (W108) that he kept until his death 9 years latter. There was a succession of different Mercedes during the 1970 until it was no longer possible to afford the M-Bs anymore.
I have the first Mercedes in the family in a long time. So its pure sentimental value . . .
I am the proud owner of a 2002 CLK 55 Coupe. I had my eyes on the CLK for a couple of months. The decision at hand was between a 430 and a BMW 540i. I really loved the lines on the CLK 430, with AMG package, and coupled with a V8, I just couldn’t resist. I was looking hard for the right 430 until I came across a silver on black leather 55 AMG at a local dealership 2 miles from my house.
I test drove the car and let me warn you now…..DO NOT TEST DRIVE an AMG unless you are prepared to drive it off the lot right then. This car blew my mind….342 horsepower….376 pounds of torque…need I say more. Performance and the looks are what drove me to buy this car. The silver exterior with the black leather and bird’s eye trim is my kind of style. It really wasn’t an option for me to own another silly Honda or Mazda. I am a car enthusiast…I have always been one and I will always be one.

I don't buy American or Japanese Cars. I had just sold my BMW 740il. The 540i looks just like my 740il so i took a look at the w210. Glad I did. I only have 2 car companies to pick from BMW or Mercedes Benz,

I hadn't bought a new car in 12 years because I spend most of my time on airplanes. Then I dumped my live-in and decided to upgrade the stable. I sold a 34 year old BMW 2002 tii - I was the original owner it had 84k miles - a Toyota Tacoma 4x4 and replace these with a 2003 NSX I bought at an auction and a 2002 G wagen from the local dealer. I was going to keep my Acura Legend LS Coupe and then my MB sister dealer showed me an AMG CL55 that they sold me new for a used car price. I'm hooked. Oh, the guy who bought the Acura runs one of the departments at the local Acura dealership because he knows how well I keep my cars. I hope to keep all of them for another 10 years.
I've had a total of eight Mercedes and currently have three. Other than two A/C issues with the W140, I've had almost no problem with any of them. The biggest disappointment of the lot of them has been the OEM navigation in the W220. I've had a lot of experience with GPS in airplanes, boats and cars. The OEM Mercedes system is by far the worst I've ever seen. The sad part is that it is a database problem and that is easily fixable if Mercedes would just demand a good database from Navteq. This would be an unacceptable system for a Kia , let alone a Mercedes.
^^^^I agree, the GPS in my '04 G wagen is the worst of any of the cars I've driven. The Lexus is the best I've seen.
But, I really don't care about that. I love the quality and the incredible value of the older ones (until they become cult classics.) I currently have 10, all in excellent condition. I'm about to embark on an 11 day road trip through the south in my '86 420 SEL. Can't wait, it's such a great trip car.
