heh, once upon a time Mercedes-Benz was a byword for shear luxury and excellence in engineering.
Now? the new S-class looks like a honda accord and has more problems than an american car. Not only that, the stitching on the seats and interior trim feels cheap.
Now someone will try be smart and say "the new s-class is more complex and so it is prune to more errors" but, _we_ are also more complex than 50yrs ago, we have more complex regression tests, simulations and integration tests. We have more money, more technology and man power than we did 50yrs ago. So dont give me that line.
I know I stole it from someone else, and I hate to use it, but I think its appropriate :
You sure are trying to start a fight cruiseoveride
Because I wanted to feel like I was riding on a cloud. And, with only 160K on it, I should be able to drive it for about 5 years with no serious problems. Can ya do that with a Chevy?
I bought the car for performance and quality. Sure I can drive fast, but the quality is not there, nor is the service from dealers. I still like it but recommend to all Mercedes owners to sell near warranty expiration, as the long term reliability has drastically declined over the last decade, if not longer. My next vehicle will be an import again, but I feel the Infinity brand, in a rear wheel drive model, is a better choice in almost every regard. The three point star was once envied, but the last few years of S-Class and ML-Class dragged the whole moniker into the ditch and left it there. In the "olden days" BMW was know as the 'poor-mans Mercedes', now sales and technologies introduced by BMW are almost insurpassable. The .003 tolerances of the LEXUS product line(and some Toyota models) are have not been achievable using Mercedes' current manufacturing technologies, and this is why we are seeing failure rates in the Benz more like a domestic. Until Mercedes addresses concerns of quality, customer satisfaction and dumps BOSCH as an electrical supplier, they will never reach the top of the heap ever again, except in price points.
I "bought" my (very nice) 1970 280SE because someone said they would give it to me in exchange for my rusty, dented, faded, oil leaking, broken transmissioned 1974 BMW 2002. So I was like... "YeAH!"
I bought my 1976 300D to use biodiesel in. Wish I still had it!
i bought mine from a family member and i was told i was making a mistake cause they are expense to fix however i find the 300e very interesting to work on. so far i changed my rad and added a new alternator.i recently crashed ina snow bank and messed up my gear cooupling. i have investigated the problem and found it. i now need to order the part. the part is expense but i love the fact that it is so strong and it looks good
Learned to drive on my mothers car (1956 - 220) in Edmonton Alberta. Probably one of the very few around. She then bought a 1962 190. I bought a 1972 220 in the eighties and now own a 2002 C Class. Just gets in your blood.

growing up, i always felt that it was a milestone, indicating success.
so when i could afford it i got one. my 2002 e320, bought cpo with 15k miles, has been fairly trouble free, especially with the help from this forum. still running well at 60k miles. can't beat the ride.i plan to own it till it falls apart(hopefully not too soon).
