I bought my 81 300SD because 1) I have liked Mercs since my new 1961 190 SL. 2). Phil Hill. (yes, THE Phil Hill) said: If I were to have only one car ( He had over 25 ) it would be a 300SD. They run forever and are a joy to ride in.

Ok, so much for acceleration but I think he had done that, don't you?

What's a better word; oh yeah - ignorant.

Yea, that word perfectly describes the type of deluded azz-hat and ignoramus that would make assumptions about the financial state of other people based on the type of car they drive.

IGNORANCE: Opinions with a lack of knowledge.

You do know what they say about making assumptions -- right?

Obviously not......Whosoever the azz-hats fit -- let them wear it!

Just loved them after owning my first, an 82 w123 240d. Never looked back. Went on to an 88 w126 300se. Presently have five of them, 88 w124 230e, 91 w126 560sel, 93 w140 500sel, 94 w124 e420 and 03 w220 s55 amg. Mostly work on them myself. Words don't do justice, need to experience them. Personal favorite - the amg.

I worked as a lot boy in the early 70's at an MB/BMW new car dealer. Euro cars were my passion when all my pals were into American cars. I went onto become a sales guy. Over the years I ve owned 66 230SL, 58 220s, couple 123's and remember the old Skool German mechanics shaking their heads in disbelief when in the 80's 124's and 201's came out. I'm still happily in the car biz now having run a Jag/LandRover store for the past several years.BUT my heirloom car is my 73 450SL.

Cool Why Still after All The Years And Miles

It was raining (really just heavy misting) in Los Angeles yesterday , luckily I was in a dry garage all day working on a 1979 Dodge D200 crew cab , after 12 hours of hard work I was beat up and filthy , glad to climb into my 1984 Mercedes Euro. Spec. 300CD and zip safely happily and comfortably home with the radio softly playing.....

Not too many other unrestored brands can do this with 403,000 + miles on the clock and never been repainted , it looks like the upper seat cushion has finally worn out so some interior work is ahead , carpets still look great though , door cars too .

A thing of quality is a joy to behold .

That's called a quality that is realized in the re-sale value. People can own them for the looks and prestige, but there are others who see the monetary and long term value.
