Post Damned druggies & Road Rallys

You have no idea ~

They sideswiped the same car leaving some body damage and a 4" black rubber bumper mark it took me a whole day to rub out of the paint , I guess I'm lucky as they next backed into it with a truck , just barely clearing my European Bumpers , and stopped *just* before destroying my original glass European head lights .

They also side swiped both of my trucks , one twice , never said boo , just drove off into the night leaving broken mirrors on the street....

I hate street parking .

I try to keep my rides in good shape so I can hop in any of them at a moment's notice and go anywhere ~ two years ago @ 0-Dark:30 I went to hop into my '59 Metropolitan Nash Fixed Head Coupe for a three day road rally up North , to discover the fuel tank had split overnight , so I checked the oil & tires in my battered old 1969 Chevy C/10 pickup truck with it's clapped out and oil burning 250 C.I.D. InLine 6 cylinder engine and roared off ~ I was able to mostly keep ahead of the guys in their Sports Cars and went fast enough that a local called the Cops on me ~ they didn't catch up until I'd pulled over to P. on a bush , the Cop slid to a stop and looked at my old truck , me leaning on my cane and asked me if I'd seen another old green pickup truck driving the back roads too fast .

That time I went fast enough to break a shock mount and rip the rusty old cab off the frame , oops .

it *was* lots of fun though .

Agreed , if you like to drive hard and economy is as important as safety , Mercedes gets the nod .

I don't have any pix of the 240D on this 'puter , maybe I'll find them elsewhere and post later .

I bought my 1975 300D because it is an event to drive anywhere you go. Driving the car is like nothing else. So much character, I'd take it anywhere, any day.

I was in college with a brand new E-Type that suffered from continuing oil pressure problems and I needed reliable transportation. My mother had a '61 300 SL that seemed very nice, so I went searching for something in the used car market and found a '55 300 SL Coupe that just had to be sold. This was in January, 1964; both cars are still completely reliable to this day.

I was driving and stopped at a little corner car lot to check out a 1959 190 sl.that at the time I could not afford, after I turned sadly, I saw a black top sticking up I walked over and saw it was a 1981 280CE Cabriolet conversion! beautifully done.and like so many others I bought it on the spot.

Exclamation Why ?

If you're really that shallow and insecure , I feel sorry for you .

I bought my first Mercedes because SWMBO wanted one , once I began driving one daily I was impressed by the handling , safety and economy of operation .

I just drove from Los Angeles , Ca. to Waldoboro , Maine in a 1987 300SDL with 250,000 + miles on it , unrestored , it ran fine all the way there and back again , including the Plains where gully washer rain storms had all the other cars pulling over with their hazard lights on , we merely slowed to 50 MPH and motored on safely and securely .

If you need a " big dick " car , try a BMW .

Because Mercedes has been in my blood since I was 4 years old, when my father went to work for what was then Daimler Benz of North America. Back in the late 1950s, when Dad was given a new corporate sedan every 6,000 miles and seeing another Mercedes on the road prompted horn honks in acknowledgment.

I bought my first one in September 2002, an '02 red C230 Sports Coupe. Still have it, just 100 miles shy of 160,000. Keeping it, at least till the inspection sticker expires in November. Still all stock save for Porterfield/Hawk ceramic brakes.

I bought my current one just this past Memorial Day weekend Saturday, a 2014 red C300 4MATIC. After one month, I'm totally in love. :-)

All the reasons in the poll apply.
