UNLESS YOU ARE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO BUY A BRAND NEW MERC, I THINK THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE BUY A SECOND HAND ONE BASED ON A MULTIPLE OF THE VARIOUS OPTIONS...THIS MAKES THIS POLL WORTHLESS.....

uhh, how the HELL does that make it worthless? A majority of people here DO have "second hand" cars. You CAN enjoy a car without the new car smell and without losing $50,000 for depreciation
Nothing in the poll asked why you bought a NEW Mercedes......
I personally was looking for a safe car for my wife to learn to drive in (yes, she is 32 and can't drive...) I came across a 1991 190e in almost new condition for a steal... I wanted the safest car I could afford, and I never thought it would be a Mercedes. I am a VW guy, and I always assumed that Mercedes was out of my price range. Now, I am hooked... In addition to the 190e for my wife, I ssold my Vanagon and picked up a 1990 300ce 24v for myself because I don't fit in the 190... The second one I got for performance/prestige, etc...
There were a few factors that influenced my decision:
1. Size: I wanted a vehicle large enough for may family and our collective hockey gear
2. Design / style: I've driven minivans for 15+ years and wanted out. Looked at crossovers of various makes and really liked the look / style / design of the R class
3. Fuel economy: in looking at various crossovers, most had high gas consumption. I liked the 320 CDI for its economy.
4. Quality: wanted a well built, solid car
5. Prestige: if I'm honest with myself, I've alwatys loved Mercedes and really wanted one.
