My 86 300SDL is probably the nicest highway cruiser I've ever owned. Bank-vault build quality, smooth and competent handling, and a trunk big enough for three Jimmy Hoffas and my luggage, too. And, 25 mpg. Heck what's to dislike? I do about 80% of the maintenance on the car.

Searching for our next car my wife and I were test driving used Mercedes E-class cars. A salesman mentioned a low mileage older car (our 99 E55 AMG) in the back lot with 42K miles. Even though it was older than the model years we where shopping for (around 2004s) we decided to take the car for a test drive. We decided after the test drive that the E55 was a great blend of performance and handling. Although the suspension was not as comfortable as the E500 we decided that this AMG exhibited a fantastic driving experience that exceeded any car that either of us had previously owned. All we can say is hats off to Mercedes for building this fantastic car.

Wow! An M-B E55 AMG that is 15 years old with only 45k !!!! In the back lot !?! So says the used car salesman!?! Unbelievable!!! Really - un believable. Was there a 1 or even a 2 in front of the 4? You either got one helluva deal or one helluva screwin'. Time will tell.

My wife only has 1 criteria, seat comfort! MBZ has always been #1 for her. For me, basically, I liked to drive them and work on them. But I could say that about the BMW's too, so I guess its all of the above in the poll. I have had 6 over the years, all sedans:

73 280, 76 280S, 78 300D, 81 300SD, 94 E420, 2000 S430
Why do I buy them?...Satisfaction! Don

MY AMG E55

This is my first Mercedes so I don't pretend to be even close to an expert. However, that being said I was able to ask my son-in-law (who is somewhat knowledgeable) his opinion .We purchased the car for $11.5k plus tax. I felt that 42K miles plus the maintenance record was worth the price. I have purchased several new domestic cars and truck but none that offer the driving experience of our E55. The car has some small areas of surface rust that I was able to take care of. Luckily I am able to perform most maintenance of this automobile. The $700 cost of a simple transmission flush, refile, and filter is cost prohibited for me.

I was an Audi guy and now being 20 was leaning more towards the luxuries instead of speed so I bought a gorgeous S-Class. I really just enjoyed driving big fancy cars and the s-class fit the bill and had everything I wanted

I have always loved the look of Mercedes cars, but my first true love of Mercedes was when I saw the SL500. My jaw hit the floor. I was in love. I currently have a 2002 C200K, which I bought last week (my first Mercedes) which I intend to give my love and attention to as it needs a little TLC.

THe first Mercedes that caught my eye was when I was on a trip In London England. I believe it was a 1989 Merceds 300te Estate wagon. BEautiful car and I ended up purchasing it and bringing it home to Toronto. Been a great car but had about 500,000k on it. So I gave it to a relative and went through a few cars that I had a few choice words about then got my S-Class

Yep and rip offs like that from some of these MB Steelers ( like MINE in Crown Birmingham!!)are one of the main reasons why MB's are now the poster cars for early value depreciation and was why brands like Lexus now hold much of the market share in the USA MB once held. BS like that needs to be stopped!
