Thanks to heavy depreciation of MB sedans, used ones (in good condition, do your homework!) are a tremendous VALUE (performance, cost per mile, satisfaction, looks, prestige, etc) to us middle class folks. Why buy a new Accord or (insert other mainstream sedan here) when you can drive a used Mercedes for the same or often less overall $ per mile. It's a no brainer.
Exactly! I always wondered that. Why spend $15k - $20k on a Kia when you can get an old Mercedes that is a HELL of a lot better in every way for LESS $$$?
My father had a MB 190 1961... that last ages at home..until my father decided to,shall we say upgrade? Restore? Fix? ...I dont know,,the car just fell apart in abandonment.....gee I loved that car..... as any MB I saw on the streets..... so when I could.....few years ago, I bought a A Class 190....I just loved the little thing...but once I decided to change it ( I had few spare bucks) and cought a used B200T.....I like it very much...but does not feels as strong and well built as the 190....lots of rattling noises who knows where ( I have crawled underneath with all kind of glues, greases, etc..and reduced thei are, but still sounding.... bah,,, I stil love the car and I think reliability is one plus (and it must be something more, because nowadays many cars are very well built, we have to admit)... Strong cars yes they are.... Nice? SURE...classy? Yeah.... all in few words ITS A MERCEDES!!!!
I bought mine because I thought it would be perfect for my job and I was right. I drive clients often in my E320W, a 1995. The clients are free to focus on what we're doing rather than dealing with discomfort of any kind in the car. They can see very well from the passenger seats (they aren't sitting at the bottom of a bucket). I also needed elegant cargo and storage space. I also wanted a car I could pay cash for, could get reliable repair work from specialists, and that would potentially go from 100 all the way up to 400k miles. I've found out since that my gas mileage is awesome compared (27!) and that everyone else thinks my car (which I thought of as grandma's merc) is a cool looking classic Merc. I got used to her looks, but others often say she is a knockout so I have to step back and take a fresh look.
Scary though; I realized later on that my father (d.1980) never owned a truck- only station wagons!
There really was no other car on the market that I could see purchasing for what I needed.
