What exactly are those two things sticking up out of the rear fenders?? Matching antennae or the result of an alien abduction?

If you're talking about the on the back of W140s, the short silver stubs that look like antennae, those are reverse guides that pop up automatically when in reverse. It helps you visualize where the corners of the car are.

Never heard of such things... Are they superior to the rear-view cameras? Can they spot a child playing behind the car?
