Tuner Weistec Engineering is known within the Mercedes-Benz community for its high-performance aftermarket parts and the company has now announced that it will field a pair of AMG GT3 race cars in the upcoming 2016 Pirelli World Challenge series. Powered by a high-revving 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 race cars will benefit from Weistec Engineeringís experience from tuning Mercedes and AMG engines over the years for its customers.
Instead of using the road-going AMG GTís 4.0-liter V8, the German automaker opted to re-use the 6.2-liter V8 mill from the previous SLS GT3 race car. Performance is around 500 horsepower although rules and regulations will detune that based on the race series.
More information on the teamís campaign will be released in the coming months, including its driver lineup.
'At Weistec we develop performance in every part and our innovations not only prove themselves in a laboratory, but on the race track as well,' said Weistecís technical director, Michael Weiss. 'Weistec has already set numerous world records utilizing the same 6.3 liter engine that propels the new GT3 car and we are excited to bring our expertise to the Pirelli World Challenge. Our passion for innovation is as strong as our customersí desire for the finest in vehicle performance.'
