2014 Mercedes E-Class Coupe, Cabriolet Revealed

With Mercedes having recently revealed the mid-cycle refresh for its E-Class Sedan and Wagon, now comes a similar update for the sporty and luxurious Coupe and Cabriolet models.

Most notably different about the updated E-Class models is the switchover from the E-Class’s quad-headlight design to a conventional look, though LED light bars will continue to give the appearance of four separate units. Changes to the front grille are also included, as are larger and more dramatic air intakes on the front bumper.

Under the hood there’s a choice of two engines, with the E350 making 302 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque from a direct injection 3.5L V6 while the E550 makes 402 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque from a turbocharged direct injection 4.6-liter V8. E350 Coupe models will be available with 4MATIC AWD. All models will come with a 7-speed automatic with a new M mode, which will return the car to its most efficient setting shortly after a driver has manually changed gears. Plus, a start-stop system will aid in the conservation of fuel.

In addition, all E-Class models feature a new electronic steering system, as well as an Agility Control adaptive damping system – with an Agility Control sports suspension available.

Equally refreshed is inside the cabin, with the updated E-Class gaining new gauges and a new large screen at the top of the center stack.

Some of the biggest upgrades come in the form of equipment changes, however, with new standard items including a Collision Prevention system to warn the driver of an impending collision, while a Pre-Safe Brake system with autonomous emergency braking is optional. Also available is a new Driver Assistance Package with Distronic Plus, which includes both a full speed cruise control system, and a feature to help keep the car in its lane. More safety equipment comes in the form of what Mercedes is calling ‘Bas Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist’, which will apply the brakes if a vehicle or pedestrian comes into the lane.

With pricing set to be announced later this year, the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet will hit dealers this summer.

Mercedes will give the new E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet their world premiere at the Detroit Auto Show in January.

I dig the look of the convertible version. Upmarket convertible Benz's has always looked amazing.



The CLK-Class, the current E-Class Coupe + Cabriolet, and now this? I'm anticipating the next generation now!

This is my favorite of the new Benz look 'Style Concept'. The CLS is equally as amazing (AMG did a better job in the front). As far as the SL, SLK, the new S-Class, GLK, and GL; I am not the biggest of fans.
