On June 19; Mercedes-Benz demonstration driver, Mauro Calo, has set a new world record for the longest powersliding drift, smashing the previous one by almost 400 meters (0.24 miles) , for a total distance of 2,308 meters (1.43 miles).
At Mercedes-Benz World, located at Brooklands, Surrey, United Kingdom, Calo drove a C63 AMG around the outer perimeter track 8.5 times until the rear tire burst, but not before he'd made history.
Speaking after the event, Calo said "the car was so balanced. I was relaxed and only had to make small corrections to the steering and the throttle. The tires let go after lap seven but I kept on going until I knew I'd beaten the record."
The shredded tire that enabled Calo to set the new record, far from being disposed of, will be put on display at Mercedes-Benz World for all to see.
Calo says his next challenge will be to break the world speed record driving blindfold. "I'm not 100 per cent sure how far it is, but I reckon I can get that one too," he stated.
