The new R Class looks a little less like a hearse than their first attempt. I live in Mercedes-land - Westchester County above NYC, and despite people owning vast numbers of all Mercedes models, the R-class is almost totally absent.

Definitely an improvement over the previous R class, but I would still prefer a GL. To me the GL looks better, especially the GL 550

The R Class looks like the results of a weekends worth of unprotected sex between an E Class wagon and a GLK.
Way back in 2003 when MB first showed the concept drawings, I was hot to get one. It looked like just what I wanted. When the first mock-up designs showed up I was still ready to buy.
Then the first production ready models showed up. It was like they kept the afterbirth and threw away the kid. How could something that looked so wonderful in the early drawings turn into the pregnant guppy that finally showed up?

Potato Chip, custom canuter valve, low-friction muffler bearings, synthetic turn signal fluid, Hi-Definition Progressive Scan Wiper Blades.
Law-makers are supposed to regulate in the interest of the public as opposed to regulating in the interest of the regulated party.
If it says Pratt and Whitney on the outside it better say Martin Baker on the inside.
