Spy Shots: Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sport Coupe back for round two
While the previous generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sport Coupe proved to be little more popular in the U.S. than the old BMW 318ti, evidently enough hatch-happy Europeans bought it to justify a second edition. Now that the sedan and wagon versions are out and about, this largely camo-free coupe has been spotted. Much like the previous edition it looks like a truncated fast-back version of the sedan. We'll probably see the model in a non-matte finish no later than the next Geneva Motor Show and possibly sooner. It's interesting to note, however, that we understand the C-Class Sport Coupe will be based on the previous generation C-Class chassis and merely wear the nose of the new model.

This model has never made any sense to me. I assume it is intended to fill the same role that Scion does and hook in early the younger demographic? All it succeeds in doing is looking like the ugly, orphaned low-rent step child. There are a lot better "entry level" models out there.
It is just so, so weak...

I love mine. Wish they would update the hatchback here in the US. The only sad thing about it is the pretentiousness of those who dont want one. I love it for kicking around town in. A sedan just wont do for me. I like the extra cargo room that folding the rear seats down gives me. I love that it is small and peppy and agile and not some generic version of a middle aged family car.
Long live the Euro model....hopefully it will outlast the American need to feel superior. Ah never mind, Americans LIVE to feel they are somehow more than the next. LOL
sorry, "the pretentiousness of those who don't want one"? does the lack of a market for that car here in the US necessarily mean that the people who aren't buying it or wouldn't buy it are pretentious? the fact is there's not enough of a market to make it profitable here. yes, part of the reason is that fuel is cheaper here so people have less of an issue having one suv and one sporty sedan. personally, i loathe SUVs and would never own one. i love european hatches and wagons in general, and our other car is a VW Passat wagon w/ awd and the 2.8L audi v6 engine. great car, luxurious for the price, nice for cargo, etc. compact hatches like this one, in general, though, do not have as much space in the back as people think. the reason i ddin't want to get a golf or a wagon version of the jetta (beyond the fact that they don't share nearly as many components with audi as the passat, and the VR6 engine just doesn't do it for me) is because those hatches really don't have a ton more room than a true mid-size sedan with fold-down rear seats. in a honda i owned prior to my first benz, i was able to fit 20 or so packages of laminate hardwood flooring - in the back of an accord sedan with folding rear seats. i might have had a little more clearance in a hatch, i admit, but i think mid-size wagons are the way to go (vs. compact hatches) if you're married or have a family and need serious cargo room, vs. someone who owns a hatch to fit DJ equipment or other stuff. IMHO...
