2016 Australia Qualifying & Race Results

Here are the qualifying results.
Don't get me started on how much the new system sucks and although teams will learn to time the 90 second bounce rule it will ruin qualifying for the year.
They are going to have to make some changes.
Several minutes with no cars on the track. Cars that would have made in the top 5 or 6 had their time tossed out.
I could rant about how sad it was to watch, but the press will be all over this with scathing reviews of how pathetic it really was.

One bright spot was to see how quick the Haas cars were in there first on track run that counts for the season. Don't let their grid spots tell the story. They could very well both be in the points by the end of the race.

That was a snoozer. Just finished watching, what a disaster. Personally I don't think race organizers will give a flying efff about learning curves, and will threaten some type of legal action because this isn't what they signed up for, especially with the rule change coming so late. I can imagine race organizers from every GP were or are on the phone with not very kind comments towards Bernie and the FIA.

I am guessing Charlie Whiting and the rules committee are going to very busy the next few weeks.

Is it just me or was that the worst qualifying session ever witnessed?

For me it was the worst. I really do think race organizers are going to be putting huge pressure on F1. F1 charges a premium and race organizers charge a premium to sponsors, if the interest on saturdays both from live and tv spectators go down you better believe you will have some very upset sponsors. This was a complete disaster and I wouldn't be surprised if they just go back to the old format in Bahrain.

If the plan was to throw a curve ball at MB-Petronas it didn't work as they were the last 2 cars on track. Much more exciting when 6-8 cars are completing flying laps in Q3 and seeing the grid order constantly changing when someone crosses the line. Today we had no cars on track for the last 2+ minutes and the Ferrari drivers were already out of the car with 4 minutes to go. This new system is FUBARed.

The plan was to have more cars on track. No more banking a lap and parking. Extra tires for everyone to encourage full participation in Q3. Vettel was taking off his helmet with well over 3 minutes left.

MB does like very dominant. but the rule was not put in there to stop them. If anything it favors them.

If you noticed it had teams so frantic the even MB went out in Q1 on the super soft option tire. They were not going to risk missing a flying lap as early as possible.

Even if they let them finish the lap they were on it wouldn't of been as bad. It was weird to watch i've never seen anything like it. The way the drivers were talking it could be changed for the next race, Lets hope!!!

The management team for F1 is really over the hill. Change is long overdue. In some ways Quali is more exciting than the race - especially Q3. The fact that Messrs Eccelstone and Whiting would put that at risk in the way that they did is an indication they are out of ideas. I agree that they will once again, go back on their little experiment and we will be running Quali differently by Bahrain.

BTW, great result team Mercedes/Petronas!
