It was a great race.
I thought the safety car was going ruin Louis' run on tires, but he pulled it off.

If Nico's car had not gone all haywire Louis would not have been able to pull out a 23 second lead before pitting for the prime tires and running Seb down.

Still, Hamilton drove a excellent race and deserved the win.

Is is still racing if the drivers having to baby their tires and being forced to run different compounds?
Apparently, Vettel wasn't the only one to think his tires would make it to the end.

I like the added strategy that the mandatory use of compounds brings to the table. It was exciting to see how it would turn out with Lewis if he would or would not be able to open up enough gap to Vettel and Ricciardo. I enjoyed the race.

Now if they could get rid of the fuel restrictions that would be alot better. These powerplants can rev to 15k RPM but they are all shifting at 12k because there isn't enough fuel flow allowed for the cars to go over 12k since there isn't a benefit. I think I saw a stat during the telecast that showed 2+ liters of fuel binge used per lap, c'mon guys I am not watching this for fuel economy and even at that rate they are using over 40 liters per 100km which is terrible anyway considering most road cars probably use 5-10 liters or less per 100km.

Lose the fuel restrictions first and foremost.

Mercedes aren't for people who want to have one, it's for people who can have one.

The paradox in the 2014 rules are 15k max revs, and restricting the fuel flow to 100Kg, which equals about 10.5 to 11k revs.
I read somewhere that at max possible revs fuel flow would be around 150kg.
Lifting fuel restrictions would require other changes / affect reliability.
Some teams are already at the last of their 5 engine allotment.

The 1980 Honda 1.5 liter turbo revved 14k in qualy trim.
Up to 87 qualifying engines had up to 1,500 hp, and 850 - 1000 in race trim.
Honda was a 1.5L V6 twin turbo.

Why lift the fuel restrictions? The winner consumed the least fuel...

That has been interesting to watch all season. Hamilton and the MB power unit seem to be one of the best if not the best one getting the best fuel usage numbers while going faster than the rest of the field.

If this continues you can pretty much predict what MB commercials will be heralding in the future.

I hope they bring back refueling soon and fix the tires. The undercut penalizes drivers for longer stints, in contrast to the good old days when running longer with a lighter fuel load than the car that just pitted allowed leapfrogging. Not to mention tires that had to last the whole race and could blow up on the final lap.
