The New Sounds of F1

I just finished watching Practice 1 of the new era of F1, and I want to throw up. I really hope these engines get better because it makes the same noise as my cleaning ladies vacuum when she is here on Fridays. When they aired the clip of last years cars doing a lap at Albert Park the sound resembled F1 this is trash. Just my .02

Mercedes aren't for people who want to have one, it's for people who can have one.

I don't totally agree, but they don't sound nearly as menacing. But the lessened aero effect made the cars fun to watch. Of course, three minutes into watching it Lewis was climbing out of his car. Hope it isn't an omen.

Definitely something that takes a while to get used to. Some probably never will, but anyway...

Maybe like electric cars they should have audio of big noisy proper engines

No trees were harmed creating this message, however some electrons were very inconvenienced.

I am not enthused either, put we'll probably get used to it. On the plus side, now we can still understand pit lane commentators while nearby engines are running (recent Sky TV F1 clip ask Crofty or Ted Kravitz).
Citizen groups over the years have attempted to shut down Grand Prix / car racing because of noise pollution.
Especially around Albert Park, Spa, and the now defunct French GP.
If the choices are having none, or a slightly muzzled Formula 1 GP, I for one pick the latter.
Cheers

I guess I am the odd one out. I am excited about F1 for the first time in a long time. I like the new tech and everything about them. It will also be very exciting to see the cars evolve over the next few months and years. Bring it on.

If you have not had a chance to check the tech to find out why the new cars sound like they do give it a go. 2014 F1: The power unit explained | Racecar Engineering

The turbo unit by itself is pure sweetness.

Hey, first post! I've been watching F1 since 1983'ish haven't missed a race. I'm sure (and hopeful) that this new era will bring awesome racing. The new motors really are technically cool, but not tickling my senses, hopefully the racing will.

Bravo for Mercedes putting all the pieces together and starting the new era with an exclamation point. It would be great to see Rosberg have a great season.

I didn't like the sound, and barring Bottas it was quite a procession. Even the Australian GP organizers weren't very thrilled with this new era.

It will take some getting used to. I have seen so many versions of the cars going back to my teen years living in 1970s England that I am actually thrilled with the evolution of the cars in the sport over the decades. It is just that this one that was getting so much interest turned out a car that is not exciting to hear, but from a driving standpoint is going to really see who has the skills to tame these torque monsters.
