The 1955 Le Mans race and the tragic accident.

Here's a good doco about the tragic 1955 Le Mans 24hr race.

It shows previously unseen footage highlighting the factors that lead to the actual cause of the tragic accident.

Cannot be viewed in the U.S.
Checked youtube, the original French video is there, but no English version of comparable length.

It was aired in its entirety on Velocity or Speed in the US. It was a great piece of work.

I had read about, scene dozens and dozens of photos, but that new film really brought me to understand how horribly brutal that crash and how many lives it impacted. The interviews with the surviving spectators that were in that section were very interesting.

I was going to get the DVD from Duke video in the UK, but it is PAL format and the wrong region code.

I downloaded The Deadliest Crash from here:

Great documentary. What is surprising is just how long it took for "a safety culture" to get an audience in Formula 1 and in racing in general.

I understand that it is largely because of this crash that Mercedes-Benz pulled out of racing for 30 years.

And crashes with injuries to the crowd still occur; 33+ people in the audience were injured in the 2013 Daytona 500.
