Mercedes Benz historic racing crash in South Africa

hi guys. i am from south africa and belong to the mbcsa. which stands for the mercedes benz club of south africa. i am based in a province called kzn. the club chairman of our region races in the local historic racing series. he races a souped up W114 280E in marlboro colours. his name is chris and he's a really cool guy. last week during the race at swartkops, a momentary lapse of concentration caused him to crash into a porsche in spectacular style. the video is posted on youtube and i am going to include the url so the guys on the forum can have a look. i hope i am doing it right however if it doesnt work you can just go to youtube and search 'mercedes benz historic racing crash'. the car is probably going to be rebuilt and hopefully chris will be racing again soon. check it out and let me know what you think. i can ask chris to post some pics of the car as well if you guys are interested. here is the url:

hi leonard. yes chris is fine. if you meet him you will understand why. you kind of get the impression that he's built of titanium like his conrod bolts. i'm glad that i met someone from durban on this forum. the Mercedes Benz Club of South Africa(MBCSA) is a club for all mercedes benz enthusiasts. anyone who has a passion for the three pointed star is welcome to join, even if you dont own a merc.our region in kzn was virtually non-existent until chris kitz took up the challenge to revive the club down here, together with his fiance anna - lee dos santos who is our region secretary. it is due to their hard work and dedication that we have a small(but growing) number of members in kzn compared to the larger provinces. the benefits of the club are numerous and if you are interested in joining i would be glad to fill you in on all the details over a drink sometime. drop me an e-mail benzboy500sl@gmail.com. i own a mercedes second hand spares yard next to the N2 on the way to gateway mall. we could probably meet up there and you could have a look at some of the interesting stuff i have collected over the years. look forward to hearing from you.

While I appreciate his efforts, a noteworthy observation is that Chris is off line in several corners, as well as missing apexes by large margins throughout the video. If he doesn't want to keep repairing his car due to shunts like this one, he should signup for a Driving School or two.

howzit leonard. yes i do own the yard near springfield. my address is 97 joyce road. sea cow lake. joining the club is easy, you just need to go to the website mbcsa.org.za and register online. you then deposit the membership fees of +- R300 for the year and thats it. you are now a member. gives you access to the club online forum as well as quarterly newsletters and plenty of exciting events with like minded enthusiasts where you can chat and tinker with the vehicles. i find the club forum to be especially helpful when dealing with technical advice relating to vehicles as the online forums give advice that is more related to us spec vehicles which are quite different from south african cars in some ways. so you would get advice from south african mechanics and owners who would have almost the exact spec vehicles as you.

So you must drive by braille then, as well as showing your own inexperience... Yes a lot of the corners he is on line, but he misses his mark on several others (at least 5 times), including the one he crashes on. Any experienced road racer who watches this video can certainly see for themselves. We'll let others observe and decide...

dude guess what? as soon as i mentioned your advice, chris immediately went out and registered at several racing academies. he is getting lessons as we speak. i would really like to thank you for the feedback and sincerely hope that your contribution to motorsport in south africa does not go unrewarded.
