OK lets have a poll on race result titles

What do you think should be entered into this poll?

I sympathize with tuttebenne. While I think the results should indeed be posted (and thanks to those who dig in and take care of that, too), a reference to the results in the thread title should be sufficient. That way if someone wants to know, they can read the thread, and if someone is trying to avoid it, the thread title doesn't give it away.

That would seem to me to be a workable compromise.

But as I said on the other thread this is not enforcable and simply not realistic for the whole forum, we are not simply talking about this sub forum. So realistic suggestions for a poll?

This is what tuttebenne suggested;

1. There is no need to restrict what can be posted in a Thread Titles
2. Thread Titles should not contain Race Results
3. Thread Titles should not contain Race or Qualifying Results
4. Thread Titles should not contain Race, Qualifying, or Practice Results
5. Thread Titles should not contain anything (this one I do not understand)

ERIC.

If only for this sub forum I would agree but forum wide? How do you stop people from breaking this rule when many of the 300,000 members do not even fill out their profiles, let alone pay attention to minor rules. I say this is not realistic.

If you put it that way I agree, but that then leads me to think that nothing would prevent the odd person from doing it no matter what, like bumping their own for sale threads...They are not supposed to but they do.

Well...considering that the forum has in its history foundered on something that would seem so basic as requiring moderators to follow the TOU, trying to "enforce" a rule concerning all members isn't realistic.

You could have it as a rule (or even just a guideline/kind suggestion) and forum announcement for the motorsports and racing forum, and hopefully people would stick to it.

Rules/laws/etc. are written for the vast majority of people, and most people follow them. No reason to get up in arms when someone doesn't, but it's nice to have a rule to point to if they violate it. There's a world of difference between a PM that gently suggests, "Hi, I noticed your thread title with race results. There's a rule that we don't do that because it gives it away for those that want to watch the tapes. In the future please don't disclose results in the thread title" and one that just jumps in and rips someone's head off...and has no "formal backing" from the forum.

Just a thought.

We seem at present to have two parallel threads running !!!

I for one would not like to see this forum run on stricter lines, it's one of the most laid back and more friendly of the board fora.
To accommodate Andy's request not to comment on quali and race results for the reasons of International time zones, without a covert title, would require a very unwelcome sticky header.

Even with a sticky in place, I can categorically state that few, especially new members, bother to read, or adhere to the advice given.

No trees were harmed creating this message, however some electrons were very inconvenienced.

Stickies are generally ignored.
I worked a long time on a W126 'welcome to the forum' sticky / tutorial to help newbies complete their profile, search topics, search VIN numbers, get free access to the MBUSA electronic parts catalog, the Russian exploded view manual, and much more.
Few newbies, and even some long time members ever bother, and act quite insulted when politely asked to please take the time to read the announcement / sticky tutorial.
Cheers
