Ferrari’s new Spanish sponsor to pay for Raikkonen to move out of Ferrari?

Here is another piece of news to help fuel the Alonso-Ferrari rumor. According to Germany’s Sport Bild, Ferrari’s new sponsor, Spanish-based Santander, that will move from McLaren to the Maranello team next year, is willing to offer the Woking-based outfit (McLaren) up to 25 million Euros to accepts Ferrari’s current front man, World Champion Kimi Raikkonen.

The move would make room for Spaniard Fernando Alonso in Ferrari. According to an earlier report by Mirror.co.uk, Kimi Raikkonen is willing to move, if Ferrari pays him his 2010 salary, as the Finn has a contract with Ferrari for 2010.

Alonso's Ferrari move to be announced Thursday (GMM) Fernando Alonso will this week be confirmed as a Ferrari driver for 2010 and beyond, according to reports.

The German Auto Motor und Sport claims the deal will be announced by the Italian team on Thursday at the Suzuka circuit in Japan.

"It is a possibility, but it is not guaranteed," team boss Stefano Domenicali was quoted as saying by the Daily Telegraph in Britain, when asked if Ferrari's next driver lineup will be known in Japan.

The newspaper said lawyers were working hard in Singapore last weekend on the finer details of Kimi Raikkonen's release from his 2010 contract.

The Finn will reportedly return to his team of 2002-2006, with McLaren and Ferrari's mutual sponsor Santander involved in the financial details of the move.

Team boss Martin Whitmarsh was giving little away on Sunday, but he did admit that it is his job to field the best drivers possible, while admitting he has been disappointed with Lewis Hamilton's current teammate Heikki Kovalainen.

And the Briton is quoted as saying by Auto Motor und Sport: "We regard Kimi to be one of the biggest talents in the sport."

It is believed that Hamilton, as well as his father and manager Anthony, are not keen on the prospect of lining up with 29-year-old Raikkonen.

"At the moment I'm very happy with how things are in the team but we have to see what happens," said Hamilton.

This for me is one of the more disappointing things about Hamilton as a champion. He seems to like having a less-competitive teammate. I'd like to see a little more competitive fire in his belly - he should relish the challenge of partnering with a great driver using the same equipment with equal support from the team. If Hamilton is as good as he thinks he is, he shouldn't sweat Raikonnen as a team mate. Raikonnen sure wont worry about Hamilton, providing they have equal cars and support.

Fernando Alonso’s new Ferrari contract could see him race for the famous Italian team until the end of the 2015 season, and earn him 150 million euros ($219.75 Mil USD), according to reports on Tuesday in the Spanish press.

The reports, in the newspapers AS and Diario Sport based mainly on the information of the radio station SER, said Spaniard Alonso, 27, is guaranteed three seasons at Maranello with an automatic option to extend in 2013 and 2014.

In addition to the terms of three years plus two, yet another conditional option to extend until the end of 2015 is reportedly also included. It is believed he will earn about 25 million euros ($36,624,992 USD) every year.

The document has purportedly already been deposited with the Contract Recognition Board, and could be announced officially at 10:00 am local from the Suzuka circuit in Japan on Thursday.

However, Italy’s Corriere dello Sport claimed that while an announcement on Thursday is likely, the official news might also have to wait until Friday.

Former twice world champion Alonso, who has driven for Minardi and McLaren and is moving from his current team Renault, is also expected to take with him some of his preferred engineers.

His replacement at Renault will almost certainly be the Pole Robert Kubica, whose teammate will be the incumbent Romain Grosjean.
