Management changes at Indianapolis
Tony George this week resigned as CEO of the former US Grand Prix venue Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Last month, rumours that he was on the verge of being ousted was reported as a blow to hopes that Formula One could soon return to the crucial North American market.

George is credited with earlier this decade bringing F1 back to the US on a novel road course inside the fabled Indy 500 oval, and until recently was keen to pen a new race promotion deal with Bernie Ecclestone.

A media statement in May however said the venue's priority should be the Indy Racing League, with some commentators questioning George's investments in the road course, press tower and other facilities built for F1.

Amid the FOTA-FIA conflict, the rebel teams leaked a theoretical 2010 calendar to the press and it featured both Indianapolis and Montreal, the host of the similarly axed Canadian Grand Prix.

FOTA chairman Luca di Montezemolo said this week that returning to the American continent is ‘absolutely crucial’ to Ferrari.

"The United States has been our largest market for many, many years and so we will do our best to race there again with Formula One," he said.

I'm no Tony George fan, that's for sure. But I have to wonder what this does to open wheel racing in America. If TG was propping it up, and he's gone, who is going to step in? Rumors include Roger Penske and the France family.

Penske would be good, but the France family has a nasty history of dumbing down the series they control (NASCAR, USAC speedway car, Grand-Am Daytona Prototypes, etc.)

RP was in partial control of CART, look what happened there.
Yet I do share a concern, maybe Chris Pook will step back up.

I'm no TG fan either. Have a good time Tony.

I found Luca's comment interesting. He talks about how important it is to do Formula One again in the USA. But if FOTA comes to the USA with their series I don't think he could use the name "Formula One" in any way?

That's correct, but don't look for the FOTA thing to happen. Max is out and after Bernie's Hitler remarks, he'll be ushered out the door as well, like the crazy old coot he is. Formula 1 will survive, FOTA will fall in line.

If there have to be winners and losers in the recent FIA / Mosley vs FOTA saga, FOTA came out ahead.

Yeah TG's 15 year money losing effort to destroy open wheel racing in the US finally paid off.
I understand the "Milwaukee Mile" track has shut down.
There was even a pass under the green flag too.

I'm speaking from ignorance, but in the series I've raced in once the green is shown it's every man for himself, you don't have to maintain formation after that. May be different in the IRL, I just don't know.
