No compromise reached over £40m cap - F1 | ITV Sport

The FIA and Formula One Teams’ Association failed to reach a compromise agreement on the 2010 regulations following crunch talks in London on Friday.

FIA president Max Mosley told reporters after the meeting at a Heathrow hotel that there had been "no concrete agreement" and that the governing body would not be swaying from its £40 million budget cap plans.

He added that teams had gone off to hold a separate meeting in which they may devise a counter proposal.

Meanwhile, Mosley also claimed that Ferrari – one of four team owners who has threatened to quit the sport if the cap and two-tier system is introduced - has applied to a French court for an injunction in a bid to stop the rules changes happening.

"During the meeting it became apparent that Ferrari have made an application to the French courts to apply for an injunction to stop us doing what we want to do," Mosley was quoted as saying by the Press Association.

The FIA/FOTA summit, also attended by Formula 1's commercial supremo Bernie Ecclestone, was called to try and halt the escalating row over next year's regulations following Ferrari, Renault, Toyota and Renault's threats to quit the sport.

Teams are opposed to the two-tier nature of the budget cap and are livid that the rules have been introduced without their consultation.

More to follow…

So Ferrari, Renault and the other big F1 players are all spitting out their dummies and throwing their toys out of their prams BBC SPORT | Motorsport | Formula 1 | F1 chiefs stay firm on budget cap

So what!!! let them pull out of F1 and let the teams that can work on a smaller budget come in.
It's already happened this year with the smaller and less well funded teams such as Brawn showing Ferrari how to win races (consistently) with less resources.
Hopefully the days when huge budgets produced predictably boring F1 races like the Ferrari/Schumacher dominance have ended.

Personally I think the idea of a level playing field afforded to all teams has to be a good idea.
It will still produce innovative technology that will eventually drip down to every-day cars.

£40M cap..... bring it on
