Good points, but again I don't see them as related. I think the derogatory comments come from remembrances of a very bitter feud between Alonso and Hamilton, to the point that Alonso negotiated his way out of his contract and left.

Now he says he never had any problem with Hamilton, it was the management. That's hard to believe for those of us paying attention during those times. Sure, his disenchantment came from management's actions but also from his soured relationship with Hamilton.

As far as ignoring the follies of McLaren's performance this year, maybe so. But let's face it, this is a partisan crowd (being Benz enthusiasts.) However, here is my exact quote from the race wrap-up yesterday:

"Great drive by Alonso in front of the home crowd, loved that last lap pass on the outside. McLaren was lost in the sauce."

By the way, thanks for participating in the forum. I appreciate your perspective.

Thank you for your welcome Gerkebi. That´s appreciated.

Let´s face it, what we know of the Alonso-McClaren-Hamilton affair it´s only the tip of the iceberg. The ins and outs and the truth are only known to them. They only make known what they want us to know. That makes our task of making sense of this nearly impossible.

In any case, what we expect is fair play. This is what sports is all about. It´s (or it should be) a challenge between gentlemen who push themselves to the limit with impeccable manners and elegance. Any wrong doing is just that, no matter who is involved.

My point is: Alonso has been badly and unfairly criticised by some Benz enthusiasts who don´t seem to say anything about the embarrasingly unethical start of season of the team so closely associated to Mercedes-Benz (from which we expect the highest levels of quality and refinement, mechanical or otherwise). That team has let us down. Badly.

Saludos

Agreed. At least we have Brawn to root for!

Unfortunately Formula One isn't about fair play, it's about winning.

Alonso struggled to beat Hamilton on the track in the same car, so he tried to destabilise him off-track and deliberately blocked him in qualifying (in whatever race it was). It's just extreme competitive behaviour. Prost did the same to Mansell at Ferrari and tried it with Senna at McLaren. Piquet also tried to do it to Mansell at Williams, but Mansell's pass going into Stowe at the British GP put Piquet in his place... Senna taking Prost out in Japan at the first corner sorted their pecking order out.

Alonso is very talented and McLaren/Hamilton are suffering as a result of Alonso not being there. Let's face it Kovi is about as much use to Hamilton as Piquet Jr. is to Alonso.

Anyway, good discussion..

Cheers!
