Diffuser Hearing; tactical error

Nigel Tozzi QC, Ferrari's counsel at the hearing in Paris yesterday seemingly decided to adopt an aggressive approach in cross examinination.

He labelled Ross Brawn "supremely arrogant" for thinking he knew better than the engineers of seven other teams and told Charlie Whiting that neither he nor the stewards in Australia or Malaysia nor the FIA understood it's own rules.

He asked the Appeals Court to save the FIA from itself.

My own experience is that, when asking individuals or corporate or public bodies to reconsider a position, tact and diplomacy seems to work best rather than implying that they are a bunch of A---holes who do not know what they are doing (even if they actually demonstrate that on a regular basis).

I'm not entirely sure how independent the International Court of Appeal is from the FIA but I am left wondering if this approach from Ferrari will prove as effective as the recent decision to put Raikkonen on full wet tyres on a bone dry Malaysian track.

Time Mr Tozzi (or should that be Dozy) for some humble pie as Brawn, Toyota and Williams have been given the all clear by the ICA.

Given Brawn's track record with Ferrari you would have thought that they would have thought twice before questioning his judgement. I do not think it is any coincidence that some of the pitwall and strategy calls from Ferrari of late have lacked Brawn's assured and calm approach.

I'd love to see Brawn take it all this year - it is a great story. However, unless he comes up with some serious sponsorship cash I don't see how he can hope to repeat this kind of performance next year. This year's car is largely successful because of the staggering amount of money Honda put into development since 2007. I don't see how Brawn can match that R&D power in the near-term.

Totally political decision because the FIA/b€rni€ are unhappy with FOTA's unity and demands for more power/money, giving brawn a pat on the head to go on using his dodgy diffuser is just a slap in the face to the big teams, and a hope they squabble amounst themselves more.

Mind, given Brawns comments that he asked the others if they wanted to clean up the rules and was turned down, you can't blame the guy for having the last laugh autosport.com - F1 News: Brawn tabled diffuser 'fix' last year

Politics in F1? Surely you jest!
I'm a fan of Brawn GP too, and also would like to see his team do well. And agree that some serious sponsor dollars are need to head his way to keep the edge.
