BMW Sauber star close to predicting wins for team.

While various Formula One commentators have suggested as much, and Kimi Raikkonen confirmed his own worst fears, little has been heard from either Munich or Hinwil regarding BMW Sauber's chances of victory in 2008 - until now.

Perhaps it is typical Swiss reticence, but the team has so far been reluctant to tip itself for race wins, let alone championship success, this season, but Nick Heidfeld has broken the silence by suggesting that Ferrari is beatable.

The German opened the year with second place behind McLaren's Lewis Hamilton in Melbourne, but Ferrari did not feature after a nightmare start to its title defence, picking up only a solitary point after the rate of attrition allowed Raikkonen to scrape eighth place despite not seeing the chequered flag. In Malaysia and Bahrain, however, BMW Sauber proved to be 'best of the rest' behind the Scuderia, with Heidfeld's team-mate, Robert Kubica, taking second at Sepang and third in Sakhir to help put the team on top of the constructors' championship for the first time.

Heidfeld took fourth spot in Bahrain, edging out the best of the McLarens and now sees no reason why the BMW Sauber duo cannot be targeting Ferrari and race victories before the end of the year.

"Finishing the race just one position behind my team-mate, who started from pole while I was sixth, is a good result," he wrote in his website diary, reflecting on the third round, "My start was good, but Jarno Trulli managed to get past me. At the beginning of the second lap, I had the chance to take it back, which I enjoyed [and], one lap later, I overtook Heikki Kovalainen, which was even better.

"We were faster than McLaren Mercedes [and] only the Ferraris were superior to us - but also they are within reach. I had problems with the traction [and] it was also pretty windy, but that was not such a big problem as I had suspected before the race.

"I am now second in the drivers' standings now and am really proud that my team is leading the constructors' championship. I am also pretty sure that, during the next three weeks, our teams in Hinwil and Munich will continue to improve our car."

Heidfeld also praised his team-mate for the effort he has put into helping raise BMW Sauber to its current heights, claiming that, despite the fact that they are racing each other for personal glory, they have forged a valuable working relationship.

"We get on very well, both on the track and away from it at PR appointments," the German told the team's official website, "We have fun together, [and] Robert is chilled out.

"[On track, though], it is normal for us to be at the limit. That is what takes you to the front on the track. When I look at the data, I can see if he has been a touch quicker in a turn, and can then work on that turn. This good relationship also helps the team."

Ferrari is unbeatable--by Heidfeld.

Hamilton > Massa
Kovalainen > Massa
Kubica = Massa
Heidfeld < Massa

Hamilton ≤ Raikkonen
Kovalainen < Raikkonen
Kubica < Raikkonen
Heidfeld < Raikkonen

If you disagree, note..
Raikkonen: Makes very, very few mistakes, and does not fold under pressure. Incredible.
Massa: Sets great great qualifiers, then suffers premature ejaculation in stint #2 and/or #3.
Hamilton: Brilliant..when starting from pole. Great at overtaking. Still makes mistakes.
Kovalainen: 15% luck [Driving for McLaren] and 85% skill. Good driver, not many mistakes, yet lacks killer instinct when the heat is on.
Kubica: Good driver, great under pressure, but not fantastic, doesn't have "it."
Heidfeld: Good driver, doesn't respond very well to pressure, not great at passing.

Anyone dispute any of that? Have at it...

If McLaren would have gotten their wish, Hamilton would have been paired with Rosberg, who IMO could have given Hamilton a run for the money.
