FIA: Williams and BMW cars illegal
22 October 2007
The FIA has said in a statement that both the Williams and BMW cars are found illegal after Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix. The FIA has said that the fuel temperatures of their cars were outside regulations during the course of the race.
On Sunday evening the race stewards are still investigating whether or not a punishment is necessary. If both Williams and BMW cars are being found illegal and disqualified from Sunday's race it would mean Lewis Hamilton has won the 2007 Formula 1 championship title instead of Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen.
Spyker technical chief Mike Gascoyne has said the variation in fuel temperatures could have given the cars an advantage. He explained to our colleagues at autosport.com: "It can be five to ten horsepower easily. The car is producing a performance advantage during the race. If they dump fuel in that is below the limit, it is an illegal performance advantage. They should be excluded from the event, there is absolutely no doubt."
