Season 2007 - Porsche rules out F1 return

Season 2007 - Porsche rules out F1 return
Eurosport - Wed, 19 Sep 12:51:00 2007
German sports car manufacturer Porsche has once again ruled out a return to Formula One in the near future.

In February the marque's head of motorsport Hartmut Kristen denied that recent infrastructure developments were in preparation for a Grand Prix return.

He has now referred to Porsche as a small independent manufacturer despite the fact that it was awarded first place last May as the most prestigious automobile brand by New York's Luxury Institute.

"The question for us is: can the capital commitment that would be necessary for Formula One return enough to make it preferable to other projects?" Hartmut said.

"So far we have concluded that it cannot."

Porsche first entered the pinnacle of motorsport in the late 50s. In 1962 Dan Gurney won the French Grand Prix before the marque withdrew to concentrate on sports car racing.

In 1983-1987, they built a turbo engine for McLaren with great success under the TAG banner.

Porsche abandoned its disastrous final attempt to return to F1 after just a handful of races with Footwork in 1991.

I live in NY and never heard of the NY Luxury Institute.

No matter what their excuse is, Porsche doesn't have the resources to compete in F1 and in sportscar racing too.

Resources:
Porsche A.G.: 13,400 employees 13,400, sales 2006 = 7.4 bio. Euro, Porsche owned CTS Car Top Systems had another 7.1 bio. Euro in sales.

Ferrari S.p.A.: I think about 3,000 employees (not sure), sales 2006 = 1,447 bio Euro.

Before a statement, it helps to make sure of the facts. Cheers

Good info. And your point is?

I don't see the explanation for how they can compete in F1 and sportscar racing. That was my statement.
