Recap before the green flag in England
Recap before the green flag:
Less than five hours left for the lights to go out at the Silverstone circuit. Hamilton will be eager to keep his first position, while Raikkonen and Alonso will be fighting over the second position, while Massa will be starting 4th.
Mclaren-Mercedes is looking forward for a 1st-2nd finish after the less than perfect French Grand Prix, where Hamilton placed 3rd, and Alonso placing 7th after a jinxed weekend packed with engine trouble.
Ferrari's hopes to keep their inertia they gained at the French GP are broad, although the qualification round this week showed that Mclaren-Mercedes is back and maybe they are back for good.
Manufacturer wise, things are working well for Mclaren-Mercedes team where it’s still dominating the top, even after the French hit, standing strong with 114 points, 25 points more than the closest competitor, the Ferrari team, in the second place with 89 points. The difference in the points keeps the lead away from Ferrari, at least for another race, assuming a perfect 1-2 finish for Ferrari, and both Mclaren-Mercedes wrecking into each other and both retiring, the difference will go down to 6 point keeping Mclaren-Mercedes in the lead for at least another two weeks until the European GP.
Drivers wise, Lewis Hamilton is still the surprise of the season, while keeping the lead with 64 points, right above Fernando Alonso, who’s 14 points shy from his team mate with 50 points. The 3rd and 4th place are occupied by the Ferrari team drivers, Massa and Raikkonen with 47 and 42 points respectively, meaning any mistakes by Alonso in the English GP could cost him his second position for a Ferrari driver. Of course WHO KNOWS? That’s the world of F1, nothing is absolute, nothing is permanent, but hey, that’s the fun of it!!!
