They admitted they had to make some compromises on the setup and may have gone the wrong way. I think they were being cautious with Kimi's car. Also, Hamilton had a lot to do with keeping them slowed down
I think that if Massa and Kimi had not been behind Hamilton, they would have been able to put in quicker lap times.
You must be right. In the post race interviews Alonso made it very clear that the emphasis for his team was the start....the objective being (obviously) to get in front of Massa. Had the Ferraris been in the lead after turn one then they would have been able to use their performance advantage and pull away.
Ferrari`s race tactics were compromised the moment that Alonso got the drop on Massa and destroyed when Hamilton skinned both Raikkonen and Massa.
Lewis allowed Alonso to do his stuff while frustrating the hell out of the men in red who sitting behind the turbulence of Lewis` car could not use their pace advantage on the straights and were vigorously rebuffed in the slower corners.
Massa was comprehensively out-thought and it will be interesting to see how he deals with that set-back and Hamilton next time out. The thing I found amazing was that Massa did not make it back to fourth and was beaten by Heidfeld.
Car compromised or severe case of he ego being damaged? I think the latter.
With Raikkonen it is not so straightforward. There were clearly concerns about the ability of his engine to finish the race so I think that was a contributory factor in his performance. However, I think that both Ferrari drivers were on the backfoot from turn one/two and they were stunned by Alonso`s pace.
In addition McLaren`s race and pit-stop strategy appeared perfect whilst Ferrari seemed a little directionless. Let`s not forget that they have lost two absolute aces...Ross Brawn to plan and Michael to comprehensively nail that plan.
It will be an interesting season.....I have enjoyed the start more than any other for a long time.
