And as illogical as it may sound, luck does play a big role.
Obviously both Alonso and Raikkonen have had difficulties with the new car and especially the new tyres. McLaren is now the quickest car but it still takes some time for Alonso to perform better than Hamilton.

hamilton i think it's not too early to see he's a great racer...the fact that he's been matching the world champion's pace is a clear indication of his greatness...i know there's HEAPS of hype surrounding him and people saying he wouldnt have done so great if he wasnt in a fast car...but the fact is he's leading the championship, he's definitely not heaps behind alons performance wise.

as for kimi there's not much he can do in tonight's race except passing in the pits...remember how DC got stuck behind the arrows a few years back? and yes you're right about how he's stubborn but he's got to do things his way ya know...
and i think people and the press only remember the stuff ups about a driver...people never tend to remember the good things..the race which got my respect for kimi was the one when his right front wheel was shaking violently and he still kept going (was it germany?) he must know how dangerous it was but he kept going until the wheel fell off....

overall i still think it's too early to pick a winner...we'll discuss this when we're half way into the championship!!

Hamilton continues to impress. He just might be the one with that extra bit of skill and dedication, to take a run at Schumi's records.
Still bad luck having Kimi did well getting from 16th to 8th.
I tried to compare Kimi's drive with Schumis great drive of last year,.......the one after the infamous parking incident.

First placed Alonso McLaren beating third place Massa / Ferrari by over 1 Minute, wow!
BTW, if anyone recalls, Schumi's 2006 drive was from 22th to finish 5th.

Raikonnen needs to get his act together ASAP.
Ferrari needs to improve reliability ASAP.
With the old technical management and system of checks and quality control, plus the group around Brawn & Schumi, it is doubtful an faulty alternator, like in Kimi's car, would ever have been an issue.
As a Ferrari fan, I hope it's not a return to Italian drama.

As a longtime McMerc supporter, I used to hope Kimi would win the championship. He would have, back in 2003, if he hadn't suffered so many accidents or failures. Only won one race that year but came second in the championship by 2 points. I watched his rear wing fall off once, and his front suspension break on the last lap (while he was leading the race), and who can count all the times he lost 10 places on the grid because his engine blew up during qualifying?

Now Kimi has left for greener pastures, and we have Alonso and Hamilton, things are looking brighter in 2007. I guess Kimi may never be World Champion now, and that's too bad. That's racing.

IMO, this season is far too young to predict who will come out on top.
There are twelve more races to go.
