Presumably you want to look at today's Unimog standings. [;)]

RE: Ellen Lohr to contest Dakar 2006

Thanks Wolfgang,

Well that too, but I am interested in all aspects of the race, including how the ML's are doing, a side commentary is the fact that some people tend to lump vehicles together without making considerations for the level of preparation like the Mitsubishis which are running in prototype while the ML's are running in mass produced class.

Correct me if I am wrong, seems to me like in the past there were two classes T1 and T2 I see now for instance, prototype, all terrain modified and mass produced, can you elaborate a little?

Thanks,

RE: Ellen Lohr to contest Dakar 2006

Andrew, yes there are two classes, they were just a bit renamed. The racing prototypes and vehicles built especially for the Dakar compete in the T1 modified production class with rather lose rules with regard to exchanging engines, gear boxes and such. That's the class in which the Mitsubishis, the RaceTouaregs, the BMWs and Ellen Lohr's RaceML compete in.

The others MLs compete in the T2 mass produced vehicle class, which basically means one has to use the same engine, gear box and main components for the duration of the race, which makes it very difficult. Just checked on today's race. Jpe Strugo with his production class ML430 finished in 25th place overall today, and appears to be the fastest gasoline powered vehicle. Quite amazing!

There are two more days. Tomorrow he'll encounter the very difficult camel grass section where he ran into problems last year, and had to withdraw. Let's hope for the best! [;)]
