I own Mercedes so I also believe they are great... but Mercedes could learn something about reliability and customer satisfaction from Lexus.

That is why Toyota buys new S-class saloons
and dissects them at their factory so that they
can attempt duplication in their components.
I never hear about Mercedes buying Toyota's and taking them to Stuttgart! Lexus is good but still have a ways to go to be on par with Mercedes, who are able to build motorcars that can run all day at 150+ mph. and use real race proven components. Sorry Toyota.. maybe the 2006 LS430 will be on par with an S-class from 10 years ago.

Lexus may not be on the same par with Mercedes concerning design and styling but on issues like reliability and customer satisfaction : OH MY GOD !!! There is simply no comparison, the Lexus is the winner without breaking even a sweat.

i felt bad the other day.

Driving about 80 on the interstate and i saw a pretty white 140 chassis car ahead, gassed it and to my surprise...

it was an ls430.

i was disgusted at myself, and lexus for making such a blatent copy!

its like squinting and looking at the camry when it is parked next to a taurus.

seems toyota has a good formula. buy them, dissect them and release them 3 years later with fewer problems than the original. sit back and collect checks and accolades from consumer reports and the mechanically uninclined.

This signature removed to protect the innocent.

Haha! Yeah, I recognize this. I've had a similar experience once. It's no secret that Toyota has been copying Ferrari in Formula 1. So I try to see it as a compliment that they copy world's no.1 car company in the luxury class segment. :)

lexus is to cars what monkeys are to animals...show them anything cool and the next thing you will see is them trying to copy it as best they can but only making themselves look like fools in the process!

There is no doubting that the japanese can take something great like a Mercedes and make it better. (W126 and LS400) but it takes a special kind of company to actually BUY the rights to the W124 from MB and then lengthen the chassis and restyle it to look like a W140,... voila the Ssangyong chairman.

Oh you had to bring up the Chairman! The thing is it has so many (old) Merc bits it hurts me to say anything bad about it, I was recently assaulted by a couple of SsangYong's, the owner of a 'Chairman' had removed the little hood ornament and replaced it with the 'Three Pointed Star', another did the same with the 'Musso' SUV, still recovering from that one

It doesn't have a name...it's just a car
