F1: Motors hold during US GP, Can they continue?

Interesting statement made by Norberg prior to the start at Indy about the reliability investigation and change of pistons. Was it bad batches all along? Interesting to see the diameter change on them. I look forward to progress during the remaining season. This is the last year for the V-10, hope it stays strong.

Kind Regards,

RE: F1: Motors hold during US GP, Can they continue?

Well we both know that USGP was only like 3/4 of the race - like 10 laps behind safety car? So I guess they didn't have that much of a stress on the engines. But I’d like to see who will they handle next race. And I’d love to see Mercedes where the Honda is. That 2 Hondas attacking Ferrari - damn I got scared.

When you say last year for V-10 – did they actually passed the rule for decreasing engines power?

People are talking about it (commentators made reference in Monaco) , however I will find something in writing stating this (maybe FIA or McLaren has it for public access). It is a shame I think.
Keep you posted.

The engine should NOT pose any problem no more. The MB engine a know made 2 races in a row with nearly no problem...

Not to mention the fact that the "new engine" in the new mp4-19B has been completly modified to make sure we wont have no more engine failure [:)]

RE: F1: Motors hold during US GP, Can they continue?

Any Particular other changes than pistons of the actual physical motor? Cooling will help I agree as mentioned on the latest model.

I ask for another opinion: Will McLaren keep Mercedes?
Interested in your input.

Interesting comment indeed!
I think they are too heavily locked in with MB to change, but I believe that if this is the case, they will be held back even further.
Evolution is a funny thing - yesterday it was all MB and BMW, today the kids on the block are Honda (when intact..), Renault and Toyota...
MB maybe should stick with what they are good at: making quality cars with DTM as a sideline...

Hi there, another interesting senario would be to have benz buy the rest of mclaren and have it become the "works" F1 team and R&D facility. How much of it do they own already? 40 per cent rings a bell.

RE: F1: Motors hold during US GP, Can they continue?

7/25/04 update: McLaren @ German GP (see new topic).

Great! just what they needed. Either they had a component failure or "someone" did/ did not do adjustments / re-inspections. Interesting to see what the outcome is. Definately did not need that event happen.

Interesting to see how as well as quickly Kimi lost it at that speed. (I think I sprayed my coffee just as fast and all over the ceiling when that top section shot off like an ejection seat on a test sled.)

Kind Regards,
-M

The Mclaren Mercedes team sucked in Hungary, I think it was a dumb tire choice. Aere they getting rid of V10's? What will they then use, V12's or V8's? We can start a betting pool....
