faulty air bag panels

Back in 98 I urged my parents to buy a C280, as only a few makers had side air bags a the time and it seemed like a major advance in safety.

Over the years, the door panels over the airbags have loosened to the point where the fake wood trim as well as the "pleather" trim on the front and rear sides are completely loose and falling off.

The Mercedes dealership from whom we bought the car has never seemed concerned, but it sure seems like a safety issue to me. Do you think this is something that Mercedes would be responsive to? Is there a way to contact them directly? I know that getting all four panels repaired would be pretty expensive and I'd rather not have to shell out the money for this if it's considered a safety issue that they will fix.

Thanks for any thoughts on this.
