The amount of engineering into these cars is absurd... in a good way. That being the reason I am buying one. Safe, strong, runs forever.

Glad to hear your wife is ok an recovering.

Compared to the W124 the W210 is junk concerning the built quality and durability.
Mercedes "engineers" were proud to announce to save 20 % of the production cost compared to those of the W124, although the W210 was sold for much higher prices than the W124.
Most W210 of today are rusty wracks due to the poorest rust prevention Mercedes was supplying since WWII.

HOWEVER: Safety was never jeopardized even in Mercedes junk cars (junk with respect to quality).

So be happy that you had the W210. It definitely saved the life of your wife in a type of crash most other cars are no more optimised for.

By the way: Crash tests also show that safety of the W210 compares to the W124. I.e., the W124 is still a very extraordinary car.

do the retro. It should not cost you +6 bill unless you look for the worst deals possible. I spent about $475 on my retro and the price of depos has come down since.

My dad has a W210 sedan, luckily he hasn't been in any major accidents.

Love the w210. Glad your wife was in this at the time.

But i agree with charlotte...if you would just install the retro headlights, you might be able to sell this thing. Just describe the damage as road rash.

I absolutely love MB's and I'm currently on my 3rd, but I have to tell you that there's nothing special about how that car took a 45 mph front impact. It looks like it held up pretty much like most other cars of its size would. Plus, the occupants were injured seriously enough to require hospital care... not exactly walking away without a scratch.

Right there with ya!!

I was just in a bad wreck Thursday in my 99 pre facelift. Doing 65...the speed limit. Kid pulled out without stopping to crossover and I could not stop. I have dash cam of the whole thing. Fortunatly it was engine compartment to engine compartment, and no one died. 16 year old, 17 year old and a 7 year old. Not sure of their status. Going to try to find out today. For me, my right foot is shattered. I will not be walking for at least 3 months, but I'm alive, and that is the worst of my injuries. I'd like to try to post the video for you all to see. Just takes one person not paying attention. Had i been on a bike or any other car, my mother would be planning another funeral, as my father was killed by a drunk driver 5 days before christmas in 1999. I truly believe my W210 kept me alive. Thank you Mercedes engineers
