Potholes tear up low profile tire and rims-live with it
Friends were on their way to visit us for dinner, driving a BMW, with typical low profile tires, that being said, hit a pot hole on the highway and lost tire pressure and pulled over. Called to the scene to help, got it towed to service. While waiting for the towtruck there were a total of FOURTEEN cars this happened to just while I was there. State of the art designed wheels and light aluminum and lower profile tires>live with it, Or go back to the 60/70's with the stamped steel wheels and hubcaps and 75 aspect wheel height (big doughnuts).
Looking at the damage of the wheel, There is stress around the fractured metal, hence, she had to have run over a large rock or similar item to fracture that rim. Metal does not react to 40 lbs. of pressure in that manner, if it was faulty casting, it would has just cracked and let the air out. Since he didn't pull off the tire, you would have seen internal cord stress on the inside of the tire also. When this guy gets his degree in engineering I might listen to him rant, when does Information Technology make him an expert in metal.
