Had an accident with my SL today

Just got the car ready for summer and my dad takes it for a spin. Then a lady pulls out in front my car, giving my dad no chance of stopping. He used his seatbelt and walked away without a scrath. The driver of a Ford focus had to go the hospital and check her arm for injuries, both cars had to be towed away..

Oh that looks expensive to fix. Glad your father wasn't hurt.

considering the car is 40 years old, it held up pretty well I think
I believe the SL of this generation was the first sport car" with crumple zones in the front and back, and it worked. Luckily it was not damaged too badly, it was picked up today, and they'll start fixing her in two weeks Can't wait to get it back!

Thats heartbreaking, but it's fixable, and no one was seriously hurt.

can we get a sense of perspective here? I'm sick to death of reading all this 'only in Benz' type crap about what accidents people survived only 'because' they were traveling in a Merc, and this is just the latest. Yes, it's a beautiful SL, but looking at the damage, crumple zones had bugger all to do with the safety of the occupants, because this is a light impact that resulted in 'slight' cosmetic damage to the Merc. Crunch zones and Mercedes' 'legendary' safety had less to do with this impact than luck, low speed and angle of impact.

If the Focus driver suffered arm injuries, that could be down to a multitude of reasons; did the airbag scuff her? (a common occurance). Was she unbelted, thus making contact with the interior panel?

Anyway, once we've jumped off the Merc safety high horse, maybe we get back to looking forward to that lovely SL getting fixed up and back on the road :-)

well, the car was doing about 40 km/t when crashing, in a 60 zone. The other car was pushed sideway several meters. Everybody was wearing their seatbealts. the airbag didn't hurt the other driver. Her arm wasn't badly hurt. But I guess the only reason my dad wasn't hurt was because he was wearing his seatbelt, most classic don't got that. And of course, t boned isn't a fair match. And I didn't say he wouldn't be okay in any other car.

Still don't know when I'll get it back ..haven't heard anything yet.
