How do I know if my cars Presafe & ESP is actually working correctly until in emergency situation.
Reason I ask is this weekend a Merc C-Class previous model came over a hill towards the town and strike a BMW 320 headon. Both cars are total wrightoffs and all occupants dien in both cars. The BMW was just crussed to pieces up to backseats.
The merc looked better, but was also crushed till rear seats.
All 5 occupants in merc died.
The BMW was striked on it's correct side of the road. The merc was wrong side.
No break/skidd marks at all..Looks like both drivers were unaware of each other to crash until last moment. The impact happened well over the hill top towards a turn further down. The turns are 100K/h turns.
No answer yet to crash. Just wondering how all these electronics may go haywire and cause a crash.

The only thing you can do to guarantee that your presafe system is working to spec. is to try to crash your car. Otherwise, go to a large open parking lot, hold down the esp button to turn it off, with the window down 4 inches turn your steering wheel just slightly (5 to 10 degrees in either direction), accelerate up to 50kph [approx. 31mph], then turn the wheel as hard as you can in the same direction. If your presafe it working, you will know. Depending on the model [PreSafe/PreSafe II], you will see different things happen. The most noticeable thing would be when your seat starts to move into a more favorable position...If your presafe isn't working, you'll have to contact your insurance company soon there after.

I dont think the electronics are really to blame in this case. Like all crashes it really does come down to the driver. And if there were no skid marks, and at a crest, they may not have even had time to touch the brakes.
If your car is equipped with Pre-Safe, I believe you could test it by finding a really empty road, have your windows open, get up to some sort of speed and slam on the brakes. Windows should close, seatbelts should tighten, and seat should adjust (I think this depends on the model).

And hope your dog doesn't have his head sticking out of the window. Just kidding, I know it's got the pinch protection feature, although that could be part of the test.
i found it was working but thats when i lost control (taking a left wide curve) on the expressway. had the sunroof open and front windows. Both the ESP and Brake warning light came on. started to slide, did a 360, then regained control. during the time the windows closed and felt the seatbelt tighten, my mom noticed it as well. happened at 60 MPH on icy roads. the only weird thing was the SBC made louder noises than the tires. but now i know it works. I wasn't testing it but oh well.
