Lsk7, I understand what you are saying and was not trying to make it sound unimportant or as though what happened was your fault. But for those of you who do not have this problem yet, please pay attention and clean out the A arm. You can do so with compressed air pretty easy. An easy way to prevent rust would be to spray some automotive grade body wax or sealant in there sometimes. Hindsight is 20/20 and yes it was not the best idea to design the arm the way they did, but I doubt they forsaw a problem like this. And by this being part of maintenance, I meant that responsibility should be for the technician taking care of the vehicle. We are paid to check those type of things out when the vehicle is in the shop. We dont have issues with corrosion where I am from, but technicians in areas where it is an issue should be used to those types of things and should have caught the problem.

I understand that it sucks this happened but its a 95!!! depending on the build date it could be 15-16years old and probably higher milage. Its sort of like complaining that my 69 camero has a hole in the floor or quarter. bmw, mercedes, jag, ect. all have diffrent problems
and i do agree this is a maintanice item during one of those many oil changes your mehcanic
did i would think he would of saw somthing. Ive been a master tech for benz for 10 years and i have never seen this happen before....

A hole in the floor or quarter would not cause a sudden failure that could result in a fatal accident.
Like I said even on the ones with the drain holes it still has to be cleaned out. You can also clean and retreat the ones without drain holes. So in a way yes it is a maintenance item.
Perhaps you could direct us to the part of the service manual to spells out how often this "maintenance" should be performed: once a day? once a week? once a year? Once a mile? And, what the specific maintenance is - what is the task number? How many hours should a shop charge to perform it? How long could we disregard the timing of the inspection before we would be considered negligent ourselves?
Bottom line, if this maintenance item is not specficically called out as requiring a certain periodic inspection then it is a design issue. I.e., it was not designed to be maintained. All cars come with recommended/required periodic inspections and maintenance and if the purchaser is not put on notice of it then it is not their fault.

Well it doesn't matter anymore for my c220, By the way the Insurance adjuster said after inspecting my (old) 1995 he thought it was a much newer car because the interior and body were "like new" with no visable wear...
Can you tell that I replaced my lower support arms a month or 2 ago ??
