Thumbs down C220 Front Wheel fell off

Hi Guys
Well a nice girl at Mercedes Customer service called me today... She called to let me know that they " received "? my emails and phone calls... She hinted about a "special warrantee" BUT when I told her that I sent the car to a non Benz garage, she hushed up...
I told her that I went to a non-Benz garage because it would be half the price and I had no incentive to do otherwise.. Since I was paying the whole bill..

I called back after lunch, (18 minutes on hold) And asked why they really called and she said that a possibility existed that they may have paided for some of the repair, But since I didn't take it to an authorized garage it was no deal.... I told her that it had been 21 DAYS from the first time that I called them and now TODAY their calling talking warranty???

I told her I NEED my car, and I couldn't wait 3 weeks to tell me that they MAY possibily cover "some"? of the repair

This is good info, I am a tech and have honestly never seen this problem before, thanks for giving me something to watch for. But rust is a maintenance issue(I know it sounds stupid but think about the old beatles), thats not something the NHTSA could do anything about, mercedes might make a voluntary campaign. But im glad your ok, and thank you for the insight.

After I read this post I went and looked at all of the 202's that we have in the shop at the time. I noticed that some not all of them do have drain holes on the lower control arm, some vehicle had a drain hole on one side and not the other. The part was updated and the drain hole what added. If you have an older vehicle that does not have the drain hole I would recommend drilling a hole for draining. On the vehicle with the drain hole more than half of the ones I saw were clogged, so on those the drain still needs to be cleaned out. I hope this helps some people.

Well My car is finished and BOTH lower control arms were bad, The mechanic hit the other arm with a hammer, and it went thru the arm... Pictures to follow

So, of course, it's NOT a maintenance issue! It's shitty design.

Like I said even on the ones with the drain holes it still has to be cleaned out. You can also clean and retreat the ones without drain holes. So in a way yes it is a maintenance item.

No it's not; any decent design would not require such an intervention.

A forged steel A-arm like my Peugeot 405 and 404 have would nicely prove that point.

Kyle,
Not to get smart with you, If I managed to get a hose in the arm and rinsed out or(flushed) the assembly, It would be still full of water.. My purpose for listing my problem was 2 fold
(1) To make Mercedes owners aware of a dangerous problem that occurs in the real world..( So they can have their cars checked for an "new" or unheard of problem)
(2) To save lives, or injurys (Because owners won't hear about it anywhere else but here)
Had this happened to me 5 minutes earlier I would have been travelling along at 50 mph in traffic, instead of backing out of a parking stall at 1 mph

I've picked up a lot of servicing tips here, and actually I would not have purchased My 1995 C220 if I would have researched here first..

My C220 also suffers from a faulty, defective engine harness.. The insulation is crumbling off the conductors... and my gauges don't work when the car is cold, ie. Speedometer, tach, fuel, Temp gauge.. AND the dealer knew the car
had these problems..Like the harness....

Would this effect the 1999-2000 W202 models? The only part I recall having changed is the lower control arm BUSHINGS but that is a regular maintenance item.

I just dont want to be worried as mine has seen its first winter this year aswell and the car's underbody gets washed quite often if that even helps.
