I purchased my e55 at an insurance auction. The driver's side suspension had the Spindel / Steering Knuckle damaged. It seems like the driver hit a curb. The Spindel was damaged but the body is flawless (no damage on the fender, etc.).
The problem is that the Driver's Side Seat Belts seem to have locked because of the minor accident. The Seat Belts do not reach the Center Push Buckle. I removed the side panel on the driver's side to see if I could fix the problem but when I got to the pulley it would not budge and would not allow the rest of the seat belt to be pulled out. Is this due to a sensor gone bad? Is there a way to unlock the pulley and allow the seat belt to work? Is this common on mercedes that have been in any type of accident (even minor) ?
Lastly, does anyone know how to remove the REAR passenger seat?
Have you looked at the condition of the pre-tensioner? (I believe its called an ETR in the service manual) That could have activated during the crash that broke the steering spindle. Its a pyrotechincally activated device so it will need replacement if it fired.
Re: the back seat. My W140 sedans have a little latch near each corner underneath the the front "lip" of the seat where it meets the mounting base. Slide it sideways and lift up on the seat. Yours may be similar.
