Hello everybody.I am new to this forum. As a long time benz lover,I have had several mercedes cars during the years. The last one a s320 w140.One of my reasons for driving a benz is their reputation for safety. Now to the subject. One a very populear website called wreckedexotics.com. you can find pictures of several crashed mercedeses. What realy surprice me is that several of them have catched fire in the engine compartment after head on accidents. These even on the newest ones.To dig a little deeper,I also found burned cars when looking at unfallswagen on the website mobile.de.Doesn,t Mercedes have the inertia switch whitch shut off the fuelpump in case of an accident,or do they just use the relee?I know in the past that some automakers didn,t use the inertia switch because it was to sensitive, and made cars suddenly stop.(Which on a motorroad also could be a safety problem)But today it has been improwed, and I know BMW use it .Anyone feel free to comment.
Bosch fuel injection systems stop pumping fuel when the engine is no longer running. They determine that the engine is no longer running by the signal from the mass airflow sensor.
Both Mercedes Benz and BMW use Bosch fuel injection.
But what if you got just a small leak in the fuel line, and there is still pressure in the fuel systems?Old engine oil filled with gasoline, transmission and brake fluid have also started a fire after an accident. If you then have the fuel pump running to food the fire?
