Its a shame to see a nice convertible go to waste. The driver and passenger of the W124 300CE cabriolet walked away from this one after the school bus ran a stop sign. The driver had a few scratches the passenger was unharmed.
A school bus driving about 55 students home from Florine Abel Elementary School collided with a Mercedes convertible on the corner of Braden Avenue and Longbay Boulevard in Sarasota on March 12, 2007. 03/12/07 (Sarasota Herald-Tribune* Staff Photo by Nina Greipel)

Damn that school bus is right.....I went to that school (2nd-5th) and they had psycho drivers getting paid minimum wage. I remember wanting to kiss the ground every time I stepped off that bus. You would think its the benz owners fault for hitting a bright yellow reflecting color bus with two strobe-flashing stop signs that is also known to carry up to 40+ children. Just remember the next time you see a bus in manatee county that there is a depressed---minimum wage----crack addict driving. Including one driver who has already forced us to lay another benz to rest.
Here are some more pictures:

From the pics it doesnt look like its a intersection with a stop sign. Somethings not right. Also why would the bus have his stop signs showing if he's not stopped unloading or loading kids. Cmon, somethings fishy. That bus did not run any stop signs. If so the merc would have been broadsided. It looks like the bus run out of control on that curve and hit the merc.
If the bus was coming from the right where in one pic you can see a white truck then the bus is blocking the stop sign he ran in all the pics. I can vouch for the idiot bus drivers here in south florida. How the driver escaped injury is amazing- I think he would have had to put his head in the passengers lap real quick, or it would have ended up in the back seat by itself ...lol

From what I gather, the bus did indeed run a stop sign. Neither the bus or the Benz were travelling fast. (A residential neighborhood) The Benz driver saw it coming and was able to stop. She ducked at the last moment when the front tire started over the hood. As for the question of why the bus' stop signs are out, they automatically come out and flash when the bus' door is opened. If you look at the picture of the bus from the front, you can see it's door is indeed open.
Seace77077, what is the source of the other pics? I hadn't seen them. Bradenton paper maybe? The pics I posted are from the Sarasota Herald-Tribune where I work.
