This reminds me of the hullabaloo that ensued back when their was an anti SUV/Truck sentiment going around. All the Granola crunchers trying to say they were unsafe to other cars on the road and they should be banned for it. When in reality its simply physics. Mass against less mass wins. You drive something small you best be careful of something bigger. Or make sure your small thing is a great roll cage with well planned crumple zones.... either way your going to lose... but then it's all about survival!

Not quite that simple I'm afraid. The height of the crumple zone makes a massive difference. When your SUV rides higher up the crumple zone it hits the 'softer' parts of the other vehicle. One of the reasons they limit the speed of trucks is because of the damage they do to smaller vehicles. They tend to just plough over their victim. Are you saying they should travel whatever speed they like and its just up to everyone else to take more care?

Two months ago I purchased a 190e sportline edition. This morning a full size Chevy truck T-boned me on the fwy. Cruise control was set on 75mph. The drivers door is totaly caved in. I walked away with bruises. I forgot my 190 is a 1989. (unfortunately, while I was sliding sideways across two other lanes and off the road, up a dirt hill, the oil pan was busted) hope they fix it. Definetaly will buy another Mercedes.

Indeed. I never intended to imply because your bigger you should be less careful of the other guy. In fact you should be MORE careful of the other guy. I do have and drive a bigger type of truck. And I do know its stopping distance is greater and so is its ability to inflict damage. I take that very seriously. However I do not automatically condem them as they have a purpose. Try finding something to tow 8K pounds and put five people in too. The point I was making is that people tend to jump to conclusions. Such as your assumption I am advocating carelessness? Hardly... But perhaps it did come across that way. I apologize if it did. I wouldn't advocate that. However... if your in something smaller, and I do also find myself in them (the SLK) I am even more aware of this.
