That is a horrible story - the Ion driver was extremely fortunate. Also no surprise to read the elderly lady died - hit on the side with a speed of over 100MPH, no doubt.

This is already posted on several other forums from different sites.

The general consensus is that the W126 was a clipped wreck. Two clips, back and front, welded together poorly.

definitely the break is too clean... if the car was "ripped" apart, it wouldnt have been ripped apart so evenly across the car... it is too bad though that someone was killed in the accident.

I think the bodyshop who did the work will have to pay for being cheap on repairs.

Yes i think that w126 were made so bad by some bodyshop that it split into two parts.
