Interesting article in the newspaper today about how data is starting to show that electronic stability control is right up there with seatbelts and airbags in making cars safe. The article talked about the fact that US car manufacturers have been slow to adopt this feature and only 40% of the new cars today in the US come with this as a standard feature with another 15% having it as an option normally priced around $800 (that most people do not order). One study was cited showing that stability control reduces SUV roll overs by 80% and another cited the improved accident statistics in sedans with this feature. It was mentioned that next year Volvo will make this a standard feature on all there cars. Near the end of the article, they were kind enough to mention that electronic stability control was first introduced by Mercedes Benz in 1995....

One more reason I'm glad to have my family driving around in a Benz... :)
