C-class crash in Tampa today

Saw on the news that a family who had just picked up some people from the airport for a wedding got t-boned by a truck while going home. Looks like the truck ran the red light and smashed into them. 3 of the 5 people in the C-class died - 2 instantly. Real shame. From the picture, it must of been a hell of a hit.

It looks horrible. I don't understand how this other car can look that good after the crash, I thought a mercedes is one of the safest cars you can have.

Is it wrong for me to be unimpressed with how that MB fared in the crash? As noted above perhaps the impact was at ultra high speed where no car would survive. But I just can’t see one of my old cars utterly disintegrating like that.

Very sad.

Well the Mercedes was T-boned at high speed.. when it collides, the passengers of the Mercedes was only protected by the doors and all the protection bars, while the Durango has crumple zones and everything.. yet it said the passengers of the durango are in serious condition.
if what happened is the other way around.. the Mercedes crash the side of the Durango, things might be different.

I used to live in Brandon. The intersection is not known for deadly crashes and the posted speed limits is maybe 35 or 40 mph – the Dodge driver must have been drunk, crazy, stupid, or all of the above to be going that fast in that part of town.

my fater survived going under a big rig in a old 78 hoda civic about 20 years ago it all depends how the impact and where the car is hit .iam sure c class is safer than honda mabe truck was doing 80 to 100 mph.

I can't help but think that if it were my SLK that got hit like that, there would certainly have been less intrusion into the passenger cabin (more reinforced structure that is closer together near the door) - but my head would still likely have hit the bumper of the durango. However, I'm willing to bet it really wasn't intrusion that killed the 4 out 5 people in the C, it was the violent head snap to the side by a high speed crash. Really, there isn't any car that could have helped that.

Plus, if it had been the C that ran the red light, there would be shearing along its side, and less intrusion.
