Interesting how Porsche refused to supply seats or participate in the testing.

RE: Seen this?

"any car in particular?"

No, not really.

"or you just wanted to show the site?"

Yeah. And the fact that several factors counts. Not just size and steel.

Check out the M and R class, with and without PAHR. With a pro active head rest, you get good, without you're down to marginal. Same car, same seat.

Part of the problem is the great value in a car. If some life saving or personal damage inhibitor device is material destructive, like the explosive bolts in seatbelt tighteners, the car industry will be more reluctant to introduce it.

I think the industry is headed for units that will cost less and less to produce. A breakpoint will certainly be when a new unit costs less than a 10% body damage, not sure about the exact figures. At that point the car could shatter to pieces for all the customers cared, as long as everybody is safe and sound as a result of the collateral damage. Because they will then get NEW cars instead of a repair, if getting a new one is cheaper than repairing.

And that is when the industry will be willing to introduce designs that will drastically reduce personal injury. At the moment it's all compromise.

Things like body shops and carfax would go bankrupt. If you don't see a scratch, there will not have been any. And of course, recycling of cars will be very different in the future.

Geir
