RE: Benz VS Bimmer

My wife is interested in a 325I. We took it for a cruise and it rides like a lumber wagon. I'm getting too old for that shit.

But you have to admit that while we have progressed to MB's, the American car companies are building some nice cars and the automotve press really isn't giving them a fair shake. All of them have come out with cars that I wouldn't mind owning again and really have given it some thought.

On the patriotism side, we can't make everything overseas so it's in our own best interests to buy it here instead of there. There's a certain leveling effect in economies when they chase the cheapest source and eventually it comes back to haunt them in a very terrible way. The car companies pay a competitive wage and it trickles through the economy much better than the wages for Wal-Mart. More importantly, you cannot continue to import $65B per month more than you export. So I say, buy your MB (like I have) and buy an American car, too.

a lumber wagon? I have never ever heard that. But it could be a good thing or a bad thing. Good could be that it is very stable. Bad, could be that it's a piece of crap.

yea. I agree. a couple of years ago, i drove a cadillac sedan, and it wasn't very good. But those DTS's nowadays are almost as good as MB's.

I agree. The DTS is a nice car and you get a lot for the money. I'll be honest, I'm disapointed with the quality of my S class. Too many things break and the cost of owning the car is pretty steep compared to a DTS.

I did a little checking at Edmunds.com and the cost of owning a DTS over 5 years is $59K. The cost for an S class is $109K and an E class is $79K. That's a lot of money to give up for slightly and I mean slightly more prestige.

yea. The w220 and dts are very much alike, but the caddy may still be cheaper, not only in price, but also in quality.

I want neighbors like that! So far all the guys in my street drive a compact during the week and a Ford F-250 or 350 in the weekend. Of course dressed as a monster truck so better be careful when you have your kids playing in the street..... only exceptions are a Jag XKR-8 and a W-220 S600. Both black (better park them inside during the summer).

I like the Acura and the new Lexus ES. the GMC is just huuuuuuge.... one of my co-workers drives one
and it barely fits in the parking lots downstairs.
Good thing she did not get those 22" spinners....
