05 SLK 350 smashed

On August 29th, 2005 I was rear ended at a stoplight by a dodge Dakota pickup truck doing 45-50 mph. The driver took off and was later caught as she drove back by. She was booked on hit and run and DUI.

The back of the car was crushed and the front was also from when she pushed me into the car in front of me.

My SLK350 protected me like a charm, teleaid was called and the lady called the police and paramedics. The car turned on the flashers for me and the seatbelt held me in place and I have no bruises from the impact. Only pain is in the lower back.

At this point the insurance says they can fix the car but it looks bad.

Glad you are ok. You should also post this in the Roadster forum for the R171.

WOW. You were hit by a truck going that fast and that was all the damage done? That's quite miraculous. It's hard to tell from the photograph posted, but was there any damage beyond the reinforced wall or doors? Although the foof panel doesn't itself look damaged, I'm guessing the mechanicals are toast.

I would be curious about all that winds up having to get replaced on your poor car. [:(] Do you have any side shots?

Yes, thank god you are ok.

I wouldn't fix the car if I was given a choice by insurance company. The reason being is that it is a convertible and the most vulnerable part is the rear. Everything can go wrong. I have CLK and my convertible top has given me more problems than you can imagine. My trips to dealers were uncountable. Say they fix it, and it works. But who knows how long it will work?

Wow, the car turned on flasher for you? It's incredible. I only knew the part about automatic dialing to Teleaid. MB's really thinking ahead.

My short History with MB:
GL350 BlueTec 2011 (Sold)
CLK320 Cabriolet 2001
S320 2002 (Sold)
S320L (V) 1997 (Sold)
S320 SWB 1997 (Sold)
E320 1995 (Sold)

Sad to see such things happen to such nice cars,... but good to see that they are doing what they were designed to do (save your life).

Glad to hear you OK, and they nailed the other driver.

Rise hell with insurance company - try to get them to total the car. If they don't make sure, and have them put it in writing - that they guaranty repairs for lifetime - you will have problems with Vario roof later and you want somebody to pick up the bill

Correct me if I'm wrong but should diminished value be of concern here?

BTW, glad to hear you're all right.
